TILE FOR YOUR HOME

What to Consider When Purchasing Tile for Your Home

Porcelain and ceramic tile are durable materials that are often used on floors and walls in bathrooms and kitchens. When purchasing tile for your home, it’s important to consider:

Tile Location: Where you plan on installing the tile affects the size and type of tile you choose.

Tile Style: Tile can come in many different colors and textures. Patterns are also available with either straight or rippled edges.

Tile Type: The two main types of tile are porcelain and ceramic. Porcelain is a little more expensive is more durable and features color throughout so chips and scratches won’t show up as easily. While ceramic tile is less expensive, the color is only on the surface, making it not as attractive when used on corners and edges.

Tile Design: Different sizes and patterns of tile can be combined together to create a unique for your wall or floor

How to Choose Tile for Your Bathroom

Tile makes a great choice for the floors and walls of your bathroom. Three different types of tile we’re chosen for this bathroom renovation:

Travertine Tile: Cut from natural limestone, travertine tile is popular choice for flooring and walls. Variations in the color and texture of each piece of travertine tile allow a range of options in layout and design when installing travertine tile in a bathroom.

Porcelain Tile: Made from sand fired at high temperature and pressure, porcelain tile are fairly brittle, it is much easier to cut. This allows you to lay out a porcelain floor in a modular fashion, which incorporates a wide range of sizes to create one floor.

Mosaic Tile: Complex patterns of small pieces come preassembled in a mosaic tile with a flexible mat backing to allow for easy installation. Since mosaic tiles easily contour around curves, they’re a good choice for shower and drain pans. Mosaic tile are more expensive and take longer to install than standard tile, so they may not be the best choice for every budget.

No matter what style of tile you choose for your bathroom, consider the amount of time and labor needed before making a decision

Ceramic vs. Porcelain Tile

There are two main types of floor tile, ceramic and porcelain. While both are durable and appropriate to use, there are noticeable differences between them.

Ceramic tile are composed of fired clay with a glaze coating. While usually less expensive than porcelain tile, ceramic are not as durable.

Porcelain tile are made of sand fired at high temperature and pressure. Porcelain tile are harder than ceramic and not porous, making them more water resistant. On the downside, porcelain tile are more difficult to cut than ceramic.

Wood Look Porcelain Tile Flooring

We all love the look of the hardwood floor but honestly we love the durability of the porcelain tile, the new trend is here with hand scraped texture it looks like real wood with the difference of you not going to get the of the expansion or the contraction that you would get whit the hardwood plank, also there is not sanding or having to refinished, the easy maintenance with a wet mop with cleaner.

if you like the stability and durability of the wood looking floors this is the way to go.
